BURLINGTON — In a short time, the building that is now Burlington Elementary will be confined to the memories of those whose formative years were spent there.

On Nov. 11, school staff are inviting former students, former staff and volunteers to spend one more afternoon walking those hallways before the old building is torn down to make way for a new building.A reception will be 2-5 p.m. that day at the school.

“This is an opportunity for them to kind of relive the past and look ahead to the future,” Burlington Principal Henrietta Kitchen said.

Organizers are asking attendees to share any memorabilia they may have as well.

A mug with a photograph of the school and the dates of its operation are on sale now for $10. For an additional $2, the purchaser can have his or her name added to the mug.

During the reception, a time capsule that was buried when the intermediate wing was built more than two decades ago will also be retrieved, homecoming committee member Harriette Ramsey said.

Once the new high school is opened, the old high school will be modified to accommodate younger students and Burlington kids will be moved to that building while the new one is built.
