Lady Tigers, Vikings win sectionals

The Ironton Lady Fighting are back where they were before.

After reaching the district volleyball semifinals last year, the Lady Fighting Tigers made it two years in a row by winning the Division III sectional finals on Saturday.

Ironton (10-9) will play Huntington Ross (13-8) on Thursday at Athens High School in the district semifinals. The first match at 6 p.m. has No. 1 seed Alexander playing West Union.

In the sectional finals, Ironton beat West 25-17, 25-14, and 25-21.

Kayla Wileman had 14 points, Michelle Pancake 10 kills, and Jessica Seever 26 setting assists to lead the win.

In Tuesday’s district semifinals, South Point lost to River Valley in four sets 25-18, 23-25, 25-22, and 25-14.

Lady Vikings win

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings captured a second straight Division IV sectional volleyball championship on Saturday by beating the Racine Southern Lady Tornadoes.

The Lady Vikings won in four sets, 25-17, 25-20, 20-25, and 25-15.

Leading the victory was Tiffany Copley who had a strong all-around performance with 25 points, 27 kills, and 20 digs.

Kathryn Myers had 19 points in the winning effort and Sarah Ashworth added 11 points.

The Lady Vikings (14-7) play in the district semifinals Thursday at 6 p.m. against Portsmouth Clay (15-3) at Wellston High School.
