COAL GROVE — Too bad they didn’t stop this game at the half.

The Coal Grove Lady Hornets were thinking upset as they took a 22-18 halftime lead against the Oak Hill Lady Oaks Monday.

But the tied turned in the second half as Oak Hill outscored Coal Grove 46-22 and grabbed a 64-44 win.

“We shot poorly the whole game and had a bunch of turnovers the second half. The first half we played pretty solid and the second half we played as poorly as we could play,” said Lady Hornets coach Nick Miller.

Coal Grove was up 10-3 at the end of the first quarter, but leading scorer Jordyn Cox sat most of the second quarter with foul trouble.

The Lady Oaks blitzed Coal Grove 27-8 in the third quarter as they grabbed a 45-30 lead.

“We just couldn’t do anything right,” said Miller. “We didn’t play well in the second half, but they outplayed us. They were just better.”

Karissa Adkins scored 19 points and Kalynn Marshall 17 to lead Oak Hill.

Danielle Carpenter had 14 points and Cox 8 to pace Coal Grove (1-1).

In the reserve game, Coal Grove won 30-26 as Tori Smith scored 9 points and Katie Harrison and Doni Winters 8 each.
