WILLOW WOOD — It’s time to requisition a can opener to get that lid off the basket.

Symmes Valley was just 15 of 68 from the field as the Lady Vikings lost 53-42 to the East Lady Tartans Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference Division I game.

Not only did the Lady Vikings have trouble shooting the ball, they were guilty of 32 costly turnovers.

“We played pretty well tonight considering we shot a dismal 22 percent from the field. Most of our shots were good shot selections, we just could not get them to fall for us,” said Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant.

“We are in a process this year of rebuilding our program. We have been hit hard with graduation and injuries., but our kids have battled back in every game and never quit.”

East took a 13-4 lead and it was 22-13 at the break.

The Lady Tartans pulled away to a 39-23 lead at the end of three quarters, but the Lady Vikings stormed back on the fourth quarter by outscoring East 19-14.

Jessie Morris had a big game for the Lady Vikings with 17 points, eight steals and three assists.

Haily Pelletier added 11 points and nine rebounds while Sarah Ashworth had nine rebounds and four steals.

“Jessie Morris had a complete game for us tonight,” said Bryant. “Both Sarah and Haily really stepped up their leadership role on the floor tonight.

“Jennie Wilson gave us another good defensive effort and Kayla ross, Erica Corn, and Nikki Nance gave a strong effort on the defensive end.”

Ciarra Wright led East (1-3, 1-2) with 20 pints. Allecia Stiltner scored 10.

Symmes Valley (0-5, 0-3) entertains Portsmouth Clay Thursday in a league game.
