At a special meeting on Tuesday, Mike Lutz was appointed to the Ironton City Council.
Lutz came in fourth in the Nov. 6 election for three open city seats behind Kevin Waldo, Frank Murphy and Chuck O’Leary. O’Leary had only seven votes more than Lutz which meant under state law there was an automatic recount. Lutz declined a recount. Lutz said it was the council was sworn in two days before the recount and he wanted the council to get business under way.
There was a fourth seat open because Councilman Rich Blankenship won the office of mayor.
Traditionally the person appointed is the one that got the next highest number of votes in the last general election.
Ironton City Finance Director Kathy Elam said she was glad to see Lutz appointed to the council.
“I think he will work out well,” she said. “I think he will be an asset to the city council.”
