PEDRO — As Hannibal Smith would say at the end of an “A-Team” episode, “I love it when a plan comes together.”

Coach Adam Simpson had a plan and the Rock Hill Redmen made it come together as they beat the Waverly Tigers 42-39 Tuesday.

“We wanted to control the tempo. That was our game plan,” said Redmen coach Adam Simpson. “We wanted to run at their shooters and we had to be physical.”

The Redmen began to control the tempo in the first quarter as they took a 6-4 lead. Rock Hill was up 19-8 at the half.

“We played well defensively as a team. We had a few lapses early, but we made our adjustments and we made some plays. Those are the things you have to do,” said Simpson.

Waverly (1-2) cut the deficit to 28-23 after three quarters but the Redmen managed to hold on for their first win in four games.

“They’re a good team. They’re varsity and jayvee program last year went 37-5, so that’s a big win for us,” said Simpson.

Wes Pierson had 12 points, four rebounds and two steals to lead the Redmen. Nathan Davenport added 10 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

Trevor Walls led Waverly with 20 points.
