PEDRO — When Rock Hill coach Matt Fulks counts the reasons the Rock Hill Redwomen beat the River Valley Lady Raiders, he’ll come up with a total of nine.

As in nine varsity players.

Rock Hill used a team effort to beat the Lady Raiders 65-58 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“It was a good team effort from one down to nine,” said Fulks. “It’s not always the points that matter. Everyone played their role and contributed.

“We got some good efforts. Our girls never quit. Amy Layne and Brooke Skinner played well. Skinner really picked it up. We did a good job boxing out and Long and Skinner did a good job breaking their press.”

Brooke Long led the Redwomen on offense with a career-high 31 points including 14-of-20 at the foul line.

Skinner added 12 pints for Rock Hill (2-3, 1-1 OVC).

Brooke Marcum had 15 points and Rachel Walburn 11 for River Valley.

Long drained three shots from behind the arc in the first quarter and scored 13 points as Rock Hill took a 23-15 lead.

“We got off to a good start and that’s always important,” said Fulks.

River Valley was forced to press and then had to foul in the fourth quarter. Rock Hill responded by converting 16-of-22 from the line with Long making 9-of-10.

Brooke Skinner had 6 points including 4-of-4 from the line.

“We hit some big shots and we shot well from the line,” said Fulks. “We’re undersized, but Leah Terry stepped up big for us and Elisha Daniels battled down below. I’ll take that any time.”
