CHILLICOTHE — Zone. Man-to-man. It’s all the same to the Chillicothe Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers used a swarming defense to force 26 Ironton turnovers and roll past the Fighting Tigers 74-28 Friday in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game.

“They do to you in a man-to-man what other teams do in a zone. They can double the ball and rotate out of a man with their speed and athleticism. If you make the wrong read, they’ll make you pay and they did,” Ironton coach Mark LaFon said.

Anthony Hitchens caused most of the problems for Ironton as he got six steals and scored a game-high 30 points. Ray Chambers added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Ironton (1-3, 1-1) was led by Marc Carter with 10 points and Jon Schweickart added eight points. Rob Webb grabbed seven rebounds.

Chillicothe (3-1, 2-0) ran off the first 12 points of the game before Carter’s 15-footer at the 2:33 mark. Schweickart’s 3-pointer had Ironton down 16-7 at the end of the quarter.

The Cavaliers kept rolling in the second quarter as Hitchens scored 10 more points. Stuart Beverly’s 14-footer with eight seconds left made it 36-13 at the break.

Hitchens was 6-of-6 at the foul line in the third quarter as he scored 10 points in a quarter for the third time and the Cavaliers were up 55-22 to put the game out of reach.
