ATHENS — If you’re playing the Fairland Dragons, watch out for that third quarter.

The Dragons again turned a close game into a rout with the help of a big third quarter as they belted the Southeastern Panthers 71-34 Saturday at the Ohio University Convocation Center in the OU Hoops Classic.

Leading by 10 at the break, the Dragons outscored the Panthers 21-5 in the third quarter to take a comfortable 54-28 lead.

“Our pressure got to them. We really got after them, especially in the third quarter,” said Fairland coach Chad Belville.

“They had 28 turnovers and 18 were in the second half. We really turned up the intensity in the third quarter and turned them over.”

Michael Lamb scored 10 of his game-high 22 points in the third quarter.

Dustin Bumgardner added 11 points and seven rebounds. Cole Hatfield had nine points and seven assists as the Dragons stayed unbeaten in six games.

Belville was pleased with the team’s overall offensive effort.

“Adam Berry had eight points and played well. We played 12 guys and 10 scored. Again, balance is the key for us,” said Belville.

Southeastern (1-6) did not have a player in double figures.
