PORTSMOUTH — What started well suddenly went awry.
The Green Lady Bobcats played well for more than three quarters, but the Clay Lady Panthers were able to finish strong and take a 61-33 Southern Ohio Conference I win Monday.
Green went on a 5-0 run to start the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 11, but Clay caught fire and outscored the Lady Bobcats 21-4 the rest of the quarter.
“I can’t point to one thing. There were a lot of things that happened,” said Green coach Dale Royse.
Adriane Blankenship led Green with 13 points before fouling out early in the fourth quarter. She also had eight rebounds.
Abbey Barrett added 10 points and five rebounds for Green (5-3, 4-2).
Dani Summers had 12 points and Cami Groves 11 to lead the Lady Panthers (5-3, 5-2).
The game was tied 12-12 at the end of the first quarter but Clay pulled away to a 24-18 halftime lead.
Clay began to build a big lead in the third quarter and went ahead 40-24.
Green started its comeback in the fourth quarter before Clay recovered.
