West Union tops Redmen

WEST UNION — Now that’s what playing on your home court means.
Evan Stapleton shot a sizzling 12-of-14 from the field including 2-of-2 from 3-point range as he scored 29 points to lead the West Union Dragons past the Rock Hill Redmen 64-49 Tuesday.
Stapleton had 10 points in the first quarter as the Dragons outscored the Redmen 19-10. Matt Matney scored seven points to keep the Redmen within striking range.
West Union built a 34-18 halftime lead as Stapleton had six more points. Four different players had a basket for the Redmen.
Nathan Davenport scored seven points in the third quarter as Rock Hill cut the deficit to 44-31.
But Stapleton had 11 points in the fourth quarter as West Union outscored the Redmen 20-18. Drew Kuehne had seven points, Matney five and Mark DePriest four for Rock Hill.
Matney led the Redmen (2-5) with 16 points. Davenport had 11 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists while Kuehne added 11 points.
Ethan McCarty added 11 points for West Union. Stapleton had seven rebounds while Craig Staggs had six rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
