RV girls end OVC losing skid

CHESHIRE — The draught is over.

The River Valley Lady Raiders downed the Fairland Lady Dragons 63-54 Thursday to end a 22-game losing streak in the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Lady Raiders’ last win in the OVC dates back to Dec. 8, 2005, when they beat Chesapeake 45-42 in the conference opener.

After taking a 15-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, Fairland led 25-18 with 2:18 left in the first half.

But River Valley went on a 19-2 run from the end of the second quarter until the 5:19 mark of the third quarter to lead 37-27.

River Valley held its biggest lead of the game at 49-32 with 6:19 left to play.

MacKenzie Rucker and Shelby Fuller scored 11 points each to lead the Lady Dragons (3-5, 0-4). Destinee Spears and Megan Brooks added nine points each.

Brooke Marcum and Kelsey Sands had 11 points each for River Valley (6-3, 1-3).

Foul shooting played a key role in the game as Fairland made 16-of-32 from the line and River Valley was 25-of-44.
