OLIVE HILL, Ky. — There’s something about the fourth quarter the Coal Grove Lady Hornets don’t like.

The Pendleton County Lady Wildcats rallied in the fourth quarter and beat the Lady Hornets 55-48 Saturday in the John “Hop” Brown Classic at West Carter High School.

“They were a pretty good team and we didn’t know anything about them. We played pretty good until the fourth quarter,” said Lady Hornets coach Nick Miller.

“This is the second time this year we’ve had a lead in the fourth quarter and scored only seven points.”

Sara Scaggs hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter as Pendleton County took a 17-13 lead. Danielle Carpenter scored six points to keep the Lady Hornets within striking range.

Each team scored 11 points in the second quarter and it was 28-24 at the break.

Coal Grove then outscored the Lady Wildcats 17-12 in the third quarter as Carpenter had five more points.

But the Lady Hornets did not make a field goal in the fourth quarter as they scored just seven points.

Carpenter led Coal Grove (4-6) with 12 points. Brittany Harrison scored 10 and Abby Nance added nine points in a balanced offense.

Pendleton County’s inside tandem scored 29 points as Alison Godman had 15 points and Natalie Kelsch 14.

Coal Grove plays Thursday at Wheelersburg.
