GALLIPOLIS — There must have been a scoring time bomb ticking inside the Rock Hill Redmen.

Struggling with just 20 points in two and one-half quarter, the Redmen ran off 41 points the rest of the game and rallied to beat the Gallipolis Blue Devils 61-44 Saturday.

Rock Hill was trailing 29-20 with three minutes left in the third quarter when their offense erupted.

“We were down 29-20 and I was about ready to call a timeout. We just kind of exploded,” said Redmen coach Adam Simpson.

“Hopefully it just clicked. We were patient and hit some shots and got our confidence going. We didn’t do anything different than we did all year. The important thing we didn’t force shots. We relaxed and had a little fun.”

Gallipolis led 16-9 at the end of the first quarter and 24-18 at the half.

Rock Hill came back to trail 35-34 at the end of the third quarter. The Redmen then outscored the Blue Devils 27-9 in the fourth quarter including 17-of-20 from the foul line.

Matt Matney finished with a game-high 23 points including 10-of-12 from the line. Nate Davenport had 14 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocked shots. Aaron Butler also scored 14 points.

The Redmen played without Mark DePriest who is out until January with a hyper-extended knee and forced Drew Kuehne to play the point.

“Matney had a nice game. Seth (Kuehne) and Drew played well. Seth had a good defensive game against (Chris) McCoy and Drew did a nice job running the point,” said Simpson.

David Rumley had 16 points for Gallipolis (2-5). McCoy scored 11 and Kyle Mitchell added 10.
