Panthers roll past Clay County, 67-26

WAYNE, W.Va. — The offense was below par, but the defense birdied every hole.

The Chesapeake Panthers shot just 34 percent from the field, but the defense created 40 turnovers en route to a 67-26 rout of Clay County in the Wayne Holiday Tournament Friday.

“We didn’t shoot well, but we played pretty decent defensively” said Panthers coach Ryan Davis.

After taking a 12-5 first quarter lead, Chesapeake used a 19-0 run to blow open its game and go up 31-5.

Clay County didn’t score until the 2:26 mark of the second quarter and the Panthers built a 38-9 halftime lead.

Chesapeake led 55-14 after three quarters.
