4th quarter proves costly for Rock Hill

WELLSTON — The Rock Hill Redwomen didn’t do things right. Then again, they didn’t have enough players to do things with.

Racked with foul trouble that cost them four of their guards, the Redwomen lost 51-43 to the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets Friday in a non-league game.

But Rock Hill coach Matt Fulks pointed toward two key factors in the loss.

“We had a lead going into the fourth quarter and didn’t do the things we needed to keep it. We had good opportunities but we didn’t hit our foul shots and we didn’t take care of the basketball,” said Fulks.

Rock Hill held a 33-30 lead after three quarters but lost Brooke Long, Cassie Large, Ashlee Thacker and Leah Terry to fouls in the fourth quarter.

The Redwomen also lost Brooke Skinner with an injury during the game.

“All our guards fouled out or got hurt and we didn’t have a point guard in the fourth quarter and that really hurt us,” said Fulks.

Wellston led 18-17 at the half, but Long scored eight points in the third quarter as Rock Hill rallied to take the lead.

But Wellston took advantage of the short-handed Redwomen and outscored them 21-10 to get the win. Elisha Daniels had half of Rock Hill’s points.

Long had 12 points for Rock Hill (2-6) and Daniels added nine.

Brianna Hall scored 19 points — nine in the fourth quarter — to lead Wellston.
