PEDRO — Nothing fancy. You might say it’s blue-collar basketball.
The Rock Hill Redmen used a patient, physical style to beat the Coal Grove Hornets 48-33 Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“It was two teams with similar styles of basketball. It was just one of those grind-them-up games like you have in the conference,” said Rock Hill coach Adam Simpson.
Matt Matney scored six points in the first quarter as Rock Hill led 11-4. Both teams did little scoring in the second quarter as the Redmen took a 15-7 lead.
Drew Kuehne got six points in the third quarter as Rock Hill stretched its lead to 29-15.
Kuehne had eight points and Nathan Davenport added five more as Rock Hill outscored the Hornets 19-18. Reece Rymer and Chris Dirling combined for 10 of Coal Grove’s points.
Kuehne led the balanced offense with 14 points, Davenport had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Rymer’s seven points and Dane Haukedahl’s six points topped Coal Grove (5-6, 0-4).
The Redmen (6-5, 2-2) have a key game at first-place South Point Friday.
“When you’re in the league, every game is big. There are no easy games,” said Simpson.
Coal Grove hosts River Valley Friday in a league game.
