BEAVER — Their shooting was missing, and so was their chance at a victory.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings shot just 28 percent from the field and as a result lost a 47-44 heartbreaker to the Eastern Lady Eagles Saturday in a Southern Ohio Conference I game.

Symmes Valley was just 16-of-58 from the floor and 12-of-20 from the foul line.

“We had our opportunities in the last minute of the game, but Eastern made their free throws down the stretch and we were unable to connect on the offensive end,” said Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant.

The loss spoiled a strong performance by the Lady Vikings Haily Pelletier who had a career-high 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Sarah Ashworth pulled down seven rebounds for Symmes Valley (1-11, 1-8).

“Our record does not indicated how much-improved our team has become in the second half of the season,” said Bryant. “We have come a long way defensively and we are making strides offensively.

“Our post players did a nice job for us and kept us close the whole game.”

After Eastern took a 12-6 lead in the first quarter, Pelletier scored seven points in the second quarter to match Eastern’s Rachel Staker as the Lady Vikings got within 21-16 at the half.

Pelletier scored eight points in the second quarter as Symmes Valley tied the game at 28-28.

In the fourth quarter, Pelletier continued her hot hand as she scored 10 points, but Courtney Rowe got nine points as the Lady Eagles pulled away to the win.

Staker finished with 19 points for Eastern (4-6, 4-5). Rowe added 11 points.
