SOUTH POINT — Once the South Point Pointers get going, they’re hard to stop.

After a slow start, the Pointers erupted in the second quarter and went on to rout the Huntington (W.Va.) St. Joseph Fighting Irish 74-39 Tuesday.

The unbeaten Pointers, ranked 18th in the Associated Press Division III poll, led 15-6 at the end of the first quarter as Beau Weed scored six points.

But Chase Kratzenberg scored nine points and Weed six more in the second quarter as the Pointers built a 38-20 halftime cushion.

“We got a couple of steals and scored and that got us going. We played hard,” said Pointers coach Gary Norris.

Todd Mayo drained a pair of 3-pointers as he scored 12 points and Corey Taylor got eight points in the third quarter as South Point extended its lead to 58-29.

Mayo finished with 25 points for the Pointers (12-0). Kratzenberg scored 13, Weed had 12 points, and Taylor added 10.
