SCIOTOVILLE — Two things hurt the Ironton St. Joseph Female Flyers. Two things and one player.
Behind 30 points by Allecia Stiltner, the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans got past the Female Flyers 64-52 Monday.
“Turnovers and free throws killed us. If we had just made our foul shots we could have won. We scored 52 points and it wasn’t enough,” said Female Flyers coach B.J. Hannon.
“But they shot well. We changed defenses to stop Stiltner, we even went to a box-and-one and she still scored.”
Stiltner scored 10 points and East led 13-6 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tartans were up 29-19 as the half as Stiltner had her seven points matched by St. Joseph’s Katie Schwab in the second quarter.
East outscored the Female Flyers 21-13 in the third quarter to lead 50-32. Stiltner poured in 15 points in the quarter while Michelle Staton had six for the Female Flyers.
Staton came back to score nine more in the fourth quarter, but St. Joseph was unable to rally past the Lady Tartans.
Staton finished with 18 points and seven rebounds. Schwab had 14 points and Charleigh Haas grabbed nine rebounds.
