There was an old song by the TV-inspired rock group The Monkees that went, “It’s a little bit me, it’s a little bit you.”

It was a bit of me and you for the Ironton Fighting Tigers as they knocked off the Marietta Tigers 69-57 Friday in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game.

Ironton got a lot of contributions and plenty of balance in the offense to improve its record to 8-8 overall and 7-5 in the SEOAL South Division.

“When we get good distribution of shots, we get more balance in our offense and that’s what we need. We want to make it hard for teams to focus on one guy,” said Ironton coach Mark LaFon.

Dustin Green came off the bench to score 22 points including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Tim Kochendoerfer scored 18 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds. Kochendoerfer was playing in only his third game after missing the rest of the season with a broken bone in his foot.

“Tim’s still not in shape, but he plays hard,” said LaFon.

Marc Carter had a solid all-around game with 10 points, five assists and three steals. Lukas Morris and Nick Lewis had six rebounds each and Bub Johnson six assists.

“Everybody is doing their part,” said LaFon. “It looked like we were a little off defensively, but I think you have to attribute that to Marietta. They’re not a bad team. They’re a lot like us. They’ve played a pretty tough schedule.”

After jumping out to a 16-6 first quarter lead, Ironton’s biggest lead of the first half was 32-18 with 2:49 left in the half on a 3-pointer by Green.

A trey by Evan Brockmeier and a foul shot, a put-back by Dustin Hale and a layup by Cole Biehl got Marietta within 34-28 at the half.

Marietta took a 35-34 lead on a 3-pointer by Anthony Tabler with 6:08 on the third quarter clock and led 37-36 after a 10-footer by Zane Eschbaugh at the 4:25 mark.

But a triple by Green gave Ironton the lead for good at 39-37.

The Fighting Tigers opened up a 63-49 lead with four minutes to play on a layup by Jon Schweickart and converted 6-of-8 free throws over the final 3:21 to seal the win.
