Flyers fall at South Gallia

CROWN CITY — If Friday’s game had been a war, the St. Joseph Flyers could have stayed home as conscientious objectors.

The Flyers played the role of pacifists as they fell 57-48 to the South Gallia Rebels.

St. Joseph coach Kevin Sheridan wasn’t happy with his team’s approach to the game.

“We were passive attacking their zone. We hit a few shots, but defensively we didn’t put up much of a resistance. We just didn’t play very aggressively on either end of the floor,” said Sheridan.

Junior guard Chad Harvey did battle his way for 29 points and 10 rebounds — seven on the offensive glass — to lead the Flyers, but he fouled out with a minute and a half to play.

St. Joseph (6-12) led 44-43 with 4:43 to play, but Tyler Duncan hit a 3-pointer that put the Rebels back up and they went on a 14-4 run to end the game.

John Wells had seven points and Tyler Duncan six as the Rebels went up 15-10 in the first quarter. Harvey had seven for the Flyers.

Pat Gagai hit three triples and Harvey had six points as the Flyers got within 30-27 at the half.

Caleb McClanahan scored six points and Duncan five in the third quarter as the Rebels went ahead 38-33. Harvey had all six of the Flyers’ points in the quarter.

Duncan scored nine points in the fourth quarter and the Rebels were 10-of-14 at the line to seal the win.

The Rebels were 12-of-17 from the foul line and the Flyers were 4-of-8.

Harvey scored 10 points in the fourth quarter before fouling out.

“We didn’t get to the line because we were too passive attacking their defense,” said Sheridan.
