ATHENS — Aaaahh, shoot!

Green shot just 23.6 percent from the field and fell 32-28 to the Beaver Eastern Lady Eagles in the Division IV sectional finals Thursday.

“We just couldn’t put it in the basket. We had a lot of shots from close range,” said Green coach Dale Royse.

The Lady Bobcats jumped out to a 9-2 lead, but the shooting went south from that point on and allowed Eastern to climb back in the game.

After Eastern closed to within 9-7 at the end of the quarter, Abbey Barrett hit a 17-footer and Adrianne Blankenship made a layup and the lead was 13-7.

a pass from Blankenship put Green up 15-13. Rachel Staker hit a 12-footer with 20 seconds left and the game was tied 15-15 at the half.

Blankenship hit a 3-pointer to start the second half only to have the Lady Eagles rally to take a 21-20 lead on a three-point play by Stevie Thornsberry at the 2:07 mark.

Staker’s 18-footer pushed Eastern’s lead to 25-22 at the end of the quarter.

A steal and layup by Ashlee Runyon and a layup by Blankenship gave Green a 26-25 lead with 7:02 to play. But it was the Lady Bobcats last lead of the game as Eastern went on a 6-0 run capped by Amber Howell’s trey.

Green was just 3-of-14 from the field in the fourth quarter.

Blankenship had nine points and 12 rebounds as Green finished the season 8-13. Barrett added six points and six boards while Russell had eight rebounds.

Staker scored 16 points for Eastern.
