CHESAPEAKE — A couple of first-year coaches got some old results.
Tyler Marcum took over the Chesapeake Junior Panthers 7th grade team and guided them to a 15-0 season. The Panthers won both the Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships.
“I give all the credit to the kids. Both groups had good kids who worked hard,” said Marcum.
The balanced offense racked up 692 points and allowed only 380. All five starters led the team in scoring at least once.
T.J. McCoy led the team with a 10.0 scoring average. Nick Duffield averaged 7.2 points per game and Nate Jones had a 7.0 average.
Eighth grade coach Bobby Evans turned a team that had only four wins as 7th graders into a 13-2 team as the Panthers won their final 12 games.
The 8th graders shared the regular season OVC title with Fairland and won the tournament championship. The Panthers lost by 19 points at Fairland early in the season but won the next two meetings.
Austin McMaster led the team with a 12.4 scoring average. T.J. Shoemaker was next at 7.9 and Jacob Wells scored at a 6.9 clip.
