Rock Hill#8217;s DeAutremont throws no-hitter

MINFORD — Starting off with nothing.

The Rock Hill Redwomen started the season with nine freshmen on the roster, but junior Jazel DeAutremont took charge by pitching a five-inning no-hitter in an 11-0 win to open the season Monday.

“We played well,” said Rock Hill Mary Harper said. “A lot of it is a learning thing right now because we have so many young ones.”

DeAutremont struck out seven and walked two on the mound and went 2-for-2 at the plate. Brooke Long was 3-3 as Rock Hill got seven hits.

Rock Hill scored four runs in the first inning.

Brooke Skinner reached on an error, Long was hit by pitch, and DeAutremont had run-scoring single. An outfield error on the play allowed Long o socre. DeAutremont scored on a pair of wild pitches.

Samantha Massie was then hit by a pitch stole, second and scored on two more wild pitches.

The lead went to 6-0 in the second inning.

Skinner was safe on a dropped third strike, DeAutremont walked and, after a double steal, a wild pitch scored Skinner. Megan Long was safe on an error as DeAutremont scored.

Four more runs scored in the third.

Kayla Kelley singled and Megan Russell tripled for the first run. Kristyn Phillips walked, stole second, and Skinner reached on an error as a run scored. Skinner stole second and then Long and DeAutremont had RBI singles.

The final run came home in the fourth inning when Kelley was safe on an error, moved up on a wild pitch, and Stamper drove the run home with a base hit.

Rock Hill plays at Ashland, Ky., Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
