Lady Vikings start with 2 wins

AID — Coach Jeff “Odie” Estep is looking for the right lineup. In the process his Symmes Valley Lady Vikings found two wins.
The Lady Vikings opened the season with an 11-4 win over the South Gallia Lady Rebels Tuesday and 6-2 over the New Boston Lady Tigers Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
Against South Gallia the Lady Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Erica Corn and Jessie Morris singled, moved up on a wild pitch, and Emily Bowling hit into a fielder’s choice for a run. Morris came home on a wild pitch.
A run scored in the second on a single by Corn, a double by Morris and a wild pitch.
Bowling walked to start a three-run third inning. Myers was safe on an error and Julie Carter had an RBI single. The runners moved up on a wild pitch and Sarah Ashworth was safe on an error for a run. A throwing error from the outfield scored the final run.
The Lady Rebels got two runs in the top of the fourth inning and the Lady Vikings answered with two runs in their half of the inning.
Morris walked, Kayla Ross was safe on an error, and Bowling walked to load the bases. Myers hit into a fielder’s choice for a run. A passed ball scored Ross.
South Gallia got within 8-4 in the fifth and the Lady Vikings got a run in the bottom of the inning when Kayla Justice singled, stole second, moved up on a fly ball and came home when Morris hit a sacrifice fly.
Symmes Valley got two more runs in the sixth.
Myers got a base hit, Carter was safe on an error, a wild pitch moved the runners up, and Justice had a two-run single.
On Wednesday, Libby Ash gave up five hits and struck out 10 to get the win.
The Vikes got a run in the first when Morris reached on a missed third strike, stole second, and came home on a hit by Nikki Nance.
Symmes Valley got three runs in the second to lead 4-0.
Haily Pelletier was safe on an error, Justice singled, a passed ball moved the runners up, and Morris had an RBI single. Nance and Bowling each hit into a fielder’s choice to plate runs.
The Lady Vikings added two insurance runs in the seventh.
Nance tripled to start the inning and scored on an outfield throwing error. Ash reached on an error, moved up on a ground out, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on Myers’ sacrifice fly.
Symmes Valley hosts its Valley of the Thunder tournament Friday and Saturday.
