SOUTH POINT — The Fairland Dragons called on Tyler Thackston for Wednesday’s key Ohio Valley Conference game against the South Point Pointers.
Thackston answered the call in a big way as he threw a complete game four-hitter and also went 3-3 at the plate as the Dragons won 4-1.
Thackston struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
“He did a nice job. He had a good ball game,” said Fairland coach Roger Snyder. “We played pretty well. We made some nice plays.”
Zac Jordan walked, moved up on a fielder’s choice, and scored on a hit by Thackston as Fairland took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
South Point tied the game in the third when Blake Meadows beat out an infield hit, Stephen McClure had a base hit and Kyle Dickess hit a sacrifice fly.
But the Dragons took the lead for good in the fourth inning.
Robbie Easterling walked, Thackston doubled and Nate Burcham put down a squeeze bunt for an RBI.
Fairland added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.
Thackston had a two-out double and scored on a hit by Tyler Godby.
Burcham struck out but the ball got away from the catcher and Ethan Long followed with an RBI single.
Fairland is 4-0 and 2-0 in the OVC. South Point is 2-1 and 0-1.
