Lady Fighting Tigers beat Jackson

JACKSON — The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers are a hit.

To be exact, 13 hits.

Ironton banged out 13 hits en route to a 15-6 win over the Jackson Ironladies Wednesday in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game.

“We really hit the ball had tonight,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields. “We had solid hits and several errors were cause by the hard-hit balls.

Sarah Jones went 3-for-4 to lead the offense. Edi Taylor was 2-4 with a triple and Mercedes Crockrel was 2-5 with a double.

Ironton got three runs in the first inning. Taylor and Morris walked, Breat Tackett reached on an error, and Jones had a two-run single. Karlie Collins and Nikki Elswick walked to force in a run.

After Jackson tied the game, Ironton scored two in the second and erupted for six in the fourth inning.

Tackett was hit by a pitch, Crockrel singled and Morris walked to load the bases. Jones, Collins and Elswick all had RBI singles, Alex Taylor sacrificed a run home, and Jordan Scott had a two-run single.

Ironton had four runs to cap the scoring in the seventh.

Edi Taylor tripled, Tackett walked, and Crockrel had a two-run double. Morris reached on an error as two more scored.

Kylie Summers went five innings to get the win while Sarah Jones finished up. The duo combined for six strikeouts and three walks.

Ironton is now 3-0 and hosts Gallipolis Thursday.
