Pointers drop Symmes Valley 10-1

SOUTH POINT — The South Point Pointers got the most out of their effort.

The Pointers had only five hits but scored twice as many runs as they beat the Symmes Valley Vikings 10-1 Thursday.

Josh Esque went the first six innings for the win. He teamed with Kyle Winkler to allow only four hits.

The Pointers (3-2) went up 1-0 in the second inning.

Tyler Smith was hit by a pitch, stole second and third bases, and scored on a hit by Kyle Hughes.

The lead went to 3-0 in the fourth inning.

Weed singled, stole second and third, and came home on a squeeze bunt by Hughes. Jordan Fletcher reached on an error to score Hughes.

South Point blew the game open with five runs in the fifth inning.

Jacob Seagraves singled and Weed, Smith and Hughes walked to force in a run. Walks to Weed, Smith, Hughes, and Stephen McClure all walked for four more runs.

Symmes Valley avoided the shutout with a run in the sixth as Sexton scored on a hit by Gage Patterson.

The Pointers also got a run in the sixth when Seagraves doubled and Weed singled. Smith was hit by a pitch and McClure hit a sacrifice fly.
