Lady Panthers down Blue Angels

CHESAPEAKE — It was just a matter of getting the bats warmed up.

After scoring just one run over the first three innings, the Chesapeake lady Panthers erupted for seven runs the next two innings and beat the Gallipolis Blue Angels 8-2 Saturday.

“We started slow, but we hit the ball pretty good once we got going,” said Lady Panthers coach Aaron Rice.

Gallipolis got a run in the first inning when Courtney Shriver hit a triple down the right field line and came home on an errant throw from the outfield.

Chesapeake tied the game in the second inning on a double by Courtney Heffner and Hannah Henderson’s a two-out RBI single.

The Lady Panthers took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth.

Allison Chapman singled and Sidney Boyle doubled for the first run. Heffner doubled for an RBI and then scored on two ground outs.

Chesapeake put the game away with four runs in the fifth inning.

Casey Kirk and Lindsey singled, Shelby Pike walked and Chapman had a two-run single. Boyle capped the rally with a two-run double.

Chapman got the win as she allowed six hits, struck out 11 and walked just one.

Chesapeake, 4-2, plays at Rock Hill Monday.
