PORTSMOUTH — Tired arms are making the Ironton bats weary.

Ironton scored 24 runs Saturday but gave up 29. With the pitching still weary, the bats felt the same as the Fighting Tigers scored just one run in an 11-1 loss to the Portsmouth Trojans Monday in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game.

“We have been hitting the ball, but we just don’t have the pitching right now,” said Ironton coach Tobey Schreck.

Ironton (2-7, 1-4) had just four hits as Byron Brammer went 2-2, Wes Runyon 1-2 and Josh Pancake 1-3.

On Saturday Ironton split a doubleheader, winning 12-11 win over Lucasville Valley and then losing 18-12 to Lewis County, Ky.

Jeremy Moore went 4-4, Ethan Preston 4-5, and Geoff White 3-4 against Valley. Nick Lewis was 2-5 with a home run and Ryan O’Leary had a triple.

Against Lewis County, Ironton outhit the Lions 16-11 but had five errors.

Pancake was 3-5 and Brammer 3-4 with a double for Ironton. Lewis was 2-5 and Preston 2-4.
