Chesapeake knocks off River Valley, 12-6

CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Panthers got most of their work done early.

The Panthers scored 10 runs over the first two innings as they went on to beat the River Valley Raiders 12-6 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

After River Valley got a run in the top of the first inning, Chesapeake came back with five runs in the bottom of the frame.

Clinton Baise singled, Matt Angle and Bryon Huff walked, and Kyle Rase reached on an error as two runs scored.

Travis Zimmerman had a two-run double and Philip Mandt singled in a run.

The Panthers (2-4, 1-3) came right back to score five more runs in the second inning.

Clinton Baise walked, stole second, went to third on a throwing error, and Huff had an RBI single. Huff moved up on an outfield error and scored on a hit by Rase.

Zimmerman walked, Mandt and Colton Lindsey had run-scoring singles, and Jon Baise was safe on an error as a run scored.

The Raiders got a run in the third and three in the fourth to get within 10-5.

Chesapeake got a run back in the bottom of the third when Mandt reached on an error, Jake Lewis singled, Clinton Baise walked and Angle singled.

The Raiders got another run in the fifth inning only to have the Panthers score in the bottom of the inning on a triple by Rase and Mandt’s sacrifice fly.

Mandt was 2-3 with three runs batted in while Rase and Zimmerman were 2-4 with two RBIs.
