RTR opens 5th season tonight

COAL GROVE — They’ll try it again.

After rain stopped Opening Night last week, projected sunny skies and warm temperatures await the Rocky Top Raceway as it begins its fifth season of racing tonight.

On the card will be Late Models going 30 laps for $2,000 to win, Tomahawk Race Car Modifieds-$650 to win, Bombers-$350 to win, and Mod Lites-$200 to win.

The night will get under way with a Champions Presentation on the front straightaway honoring the 2007 track champions at 7:30 with Hot Laps immediately following. The first heat race should take to the track between 8:30-9 p.m.

To get to Rocky Top Raceway, travel 4.1 miles out State Route 243 in Coal Grove and then make a left at Judy’s Giovanni’s Pizza to get on County Road 6.

The track is located 3.3 miles out CR 6 on the right. Signs are posted at the CR 6 turnoff and the turnoff to pull into the track.

RTR offers grandstand seating, but does not limit fans to the grandstands. Fans are welcomed to bring lawn chairs.

General admission is $12 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.
