South Point outguns Chesapeake, 12-8

CHESAPEAKE — If offense sells tickets, Chesapeake athletic director Larry Morgan must have been happy.

South Point and Chesapeake combined for 20 runs and 26 hits as the Pointers outscored the Panthers 12-8 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

South Point went up 2-0 in the first inning. Jordan Fletcher reached on an error, Beau Weed singled, and Tyler Smith smack a two-run double.

Chesapeake took the lead with four runs.

Clinton Baise singled and Matt Angle doubled for a run. Bryon Huff singled, stole second, and Kyle Rase had an RBI single. Rase moved up on a passed ball and Phillip Mandt singled in two.

The Pointers got three runs in the each the second and third innings.

In the second, Josh Esque singled and went to third on an outfield error. Jake Adkins had an RBI single, Steven McClure followed with a hit and Kyle Dickess and Jordan Fletcher each reached on a fielder’s choice.

Weed then walked and Seagraves singled home a pair.

Hughes walked and Esque singled to start the third inning. Jake Adkins was safe on an error as a run scored. McClure drove in a run with a base hit and then scored on Dickess’ ground out.

South Point took a 12-4 lead in the fifth inning.

Dickess and Fletcher singled, Weed was safe on an error as a run scored, Seagraves singled in a run and Hughes had a two-run single.

Chesapeake got four in the sixth inning.

Jon Baise and Trey West doubled for a run. Clinton Baise singled in West, Angle singled and went to second on a throwing error as Baise scored. Huff was hit by a pitch and a passed ball scored the final run.

South Point is now 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the OVC. Chesapeake is 2-5 and 1-4.
