HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Revenge was sweet.

After losing 5 times previously, the Huntington Heroes finally got their first win against the Canton as they hammered the Legends 49-6 in front of an estimated 1,075 fans at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena.

“I’m glad for the fans especially to get this win against Canton,” Heroes head coach Teddy Keaton. “They’ve been waiting for this for a long time.”

Heroes’ offensive lineman Chris Barnes, who played in 3 of those losses last season, was more than happy to get the win.

“It felt great after all the times they whipped us over the last couple years. It was great to smack them around for 60 minutes,” said Barnes.

Huntington (5-1) got things started quarterback Darnell Kennedy hit Tario Frederick for a 26-yard touchdown strike on their first offensive play and Jason Cherry added the point after to give the Heroes an early 7-0 lead with 7:59 in the opening quarter.

Frederick finished the night with 6 catches for 95 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead all receivers in the game.

Late in the second period, Kennedy and Frederick hooked up for the second time on a 13-yard pass to make the score 17-0.

After a missed field goal by Cherry, Canton got the ball back at its own 10 and a chance to put points on the board to end the half.

Legends quarterback Jamie Williamson fumbled the snap from center in the end zone and Heroes defensive end Justin Komondoreas fell on the loose ball to give Huntington a 24-0 advantage going into the half.

“We started a little rusty. Dropped to many balls on offense. But we were able to stay in control all night,” said Keaton.

The onslaught continued in the second half as Kennedy ran for a score and then found Frederick again to give the Heroes a 37-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Much of the Heroes success on offense was credited to the offensive line for shutting down a pass rush that included a very athletic Dante Booker.
