Lawrence County senior citizens will get some help keeping private matters private, compliments of the American Association of Retired Person, Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization and Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District.

On Thursday, May 8, those entities will allow seniors to come to either the Sybene Senior Center or the Ironton Senior Center and have their old necessary papers disposed of.

“We’re calling it ‘Fight fraud, shred instead,” explained AARP President Marilyn Howard. “People can bring their documents, drive up and drop them off and watch as they’re (the documents) shredded.”

The shredding will take place at Sybene 10 a.m.- noon and in the parking lot across from the Ironton center 1:30-3:30 p.m. Participants are asked to turn left from Center Street onto Bobby Bare Boulevard to prevent traffic tie-ups on Park Avenue.

Also that day, Memorial Day flowers arrangements will be on sale in adjacent areas of the parking lot. Proceeds will benefit local senior service programs. Howard said the arrangements will be suitable for display on tombstones and graves for memorial observance.
