Redwomen rally to top River Valley

CHESHIRE — Down but not out.

Trailing 4-1 with two outs in the seventh inning, the Rock Hill Redwomen rallied to beat the River Valley Lady Raiders 5-4 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We had some girls who stepped up and the girls really clutched up when we needed it,” said Rock Hill coach Mary Harper.

River Valley broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the third inning.

Brittany Hardway singled and moved up on an error. Stephanie Griffith singled home Hardway and then scored on a double by Terra Porter.

Rock Hill cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth inning when Brooke Skinner triple and Dani Crabtree grounded out.

The Lady Raiders got two more runs in the fifth to lead 4-1.

Jenna Ward walked, Hardway was safe on an error, and Porter had her second double to drive in both runners.

But then came the seventh inning comeback.

Kayla Kelley singled and Jessica Crank reached on an error to start the inning. Two outs later, Courtney Duncan singled to drive in Kelley and it was 4-2.

Brooke Long was safe on an error as Crank scored. Jazel DeAutremont then delivered a two-run single to put the Redwomen ahead 5-4.

Rock Hill (8-8, 4-2) visits South Point Wednesday.

River Valley fell to 3-9 and 2-4.
