SV#8217;s Powell fires no-hitter

AID — Robbie Powell was in a zone. A no-hit zone.

Robbie Powell threw a five-inning no-hitter as the Symmes Valley Vikings blanked the Sciotoville East Tartans 13-0 Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Powell struck out six and did not walk a batter in registering his masterpiece.

“That’s the best all-around game we’ve played,” said Vikings coach Chad Renfroe. “That was one of best games I’ve seen our of a high school pitcher as far as spotting the ball and getting ahead of hitters.”

The Vikings wasted little time as they scored twice in the first inning.

Tyler Easthom doubled and Powell had an RBI single. After a wild pitch, Jeremy Hatfield singled to drive in Powell.

The Vikings rallied for seven runs in the third inning.

Powell reached on an error and Hatfield hit a two-run homer.

Luke Taylor singled, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Brandon Bowling’s double. Kris Tibbs followed with an RBI singled and then stole second and scored on a hit by Dustin Wilson.

Easthom singled and both runners moved up on a passed ball. Ethan Wilson was safe on a fielder’s choice as a run scored and Powell singled in the final run.

Symmes Valley capped the scoring with four runs in the fourth.

Hatfield walked and Taylor and Bowling singled for a run. Ethan Wilson was safe on an error as a run scored.

Easthom reached on an error as a run scored and a fielder’s choice scored the final run.

Powell went 3-4, Taylor 3-3, Bowling 2-3, Hatfield 2-2 and Easthom 2-4 as the Vikings pounded out 14 hits.

Bowling was playing his first game since having ankle surgery.

“It was nice to have Brandon back. He’s worked really hard,” said Renfroe.

Symmes Valley (6-2, 4-0) visits Green next Monday.
