Fairland boys, girls sweep South Gallia

PROCTORVILLE — Enough was enough.

The Fairland Dragons did enough to get a 13-3 win over the South Gallia Rebels Tuesday.

“We didn’t play our best game, but we played well enough to get the job done,” said Fairland coach Roger Snyder.

South Gallia took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning only to have Fairland rally to take the lead in the bottom of the inning with two runs.

Zac Jordan and Justin Earl walked and Robbie Easterling had an RBI double. Ethan Long hit into a fielder’s choice as Earl scored.

The Dragons pushed across six runs in the third inning.

Earl walked, Easterling singled, and Adam Berry walked to load the bases. Tyler Godby had a two-run single, Long was safe on a fielder’s choice, and Nate Burcham had an RBI double. Chad Fisher smacked a two-run double and then scored on a hit by Jordan.

South Gallia got single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to trail 8-3.

But Fairland scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to lead 12-3.

Burcham, Matt Campbell and Jordan all singled for a run. After a passed ball, Chris Ward had a two-run single, moved up on a fielder’s choice and came home on Easterling’s base hit.

The final Fairland run scored in the sixth when Burcham reached on an error, Mitch Love singled, and Jordan hit into a fielder’s choice.

Fisher went three innings to get the win. Long worked the final three innings.

Easterling was 3-3 to lead a 14-hit attack. Godby was 2-3 with Jordan and Burcham were 2-4.

Fairland (12-3) plays at Coal Grove Wednesday.

PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Lady Dragons jumped out to a 5-0 lead and went on to beat the South Gallia Lady Rebels 8-5 Tuesday.

Amber Bias walked and Kathleen Blatt doubled to start the scoring. Whitney Boster singled and Shelby Fuller had a two-run single and it was 3-0. A walk and hit batsmen led to two more runs.

“We took advantage of their mistakes,” said Fairland coach Glenn Dillon as the Rebels issued seven walks.

South Gallia got three runs in the top of the third inning but Fairland answered with two in the bottom of the inning.

Bias and Blatt singled, Boster was hit by a pitch, Keri Pinkerman had an RBI single and Stormie Spitzer walked to force in a run.

The Lady Rebels cut the deficit to 7-5 in the fifth only to have Fairland counter with a run in their half of the inning when Mackenzie Rucker walked and Boster had a two-out double.

Bias struck out eight and walked two as she got the win. Boster went 2-2 and Blatt 2-4 for Fairland (4-8).
