Two Ironton area men are behind bars and without wheels today after they allegedly used 4-wheelers to damage the golf course at the Ironton Country Club earlier this week.

Nicholas Fuentes, 18, and Lee Keith, 19, both of 260-B Junior Road, Ironton, have been charged with trespassing and vandalism. They are housed in the Lawrence County Jail.

Lawrence County Sheriff Tim Sexton said deputies began investigating reports that people on four-wheelers trespassed on club grounds after hours and damaged the greens and fairways at the golf course.

“This was an absolutely senseless act of vandalism that has occurred with damage estimates that may reach tens of thousands of dollars,” Sexton said. “The quick resolution of this case is due to the action of Sgt. Randy Goodall, Deputy Jerry Elliott and Detective Aaron Bollinger. Furthermore, I also commend citizens who provided valuable information to the sheriff’s office, information that allowed our personnel to follow-up on important leads that resulted in the incarceration of two suspects for this criminal action.”

A Yamaha ATV and a Honda ATV have been impounded.
