Zonefest will make its return to the End Zone Pizzeria this weekend.

Rob Brumfield, owner of the End Zone in downtown Ironton, said the sixth edition of the popular event has a new addition — bluegrass music on Friday. Saturday is still dedicated to rock music and cornhole.

“This is the first year we have had bluegrass music,” he said. “We have bluegrass bands at the End Zone often and it draws such a crowd that we decided to do one night of Zonefest like that. There is such a demand it’s amazing.”

Brumfield said upwards of 1,400 people attend the event over the weekend.

“We always try to give the community something to do and it is a pretty popular event,” he said. “It just keeps getting bigger and better.”

The music kicks off on Friday night with acoustic and bluegrass music. Cimarron Skye begins at 7 p.m., Sheldon Road plays at 8:30 p.m. and New Time plays at 10:30 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m.

Saturday at 5:30 p.m. a cornhole tournament begins. This year it is double-elimination brackets and teams need to sign up by Saturday at noon.

Music starts at 7 p.m. with Freaktent, Rock Candy is at 9:30 p.m. and Tantrum takes the stage at 11:30 p.m.

Tickets are $5 at the gate but if you buy tickets before 5 p.m. Friday, it is $4.

“For three bands and everything else we have going on, it is pretty cheap,” Brumfield said.

Brumfield said that because of the high price of gasoline, he has lowered the price of the event.

“We’re trying to help out a little bit, all our prices have basically gone down,” he said. Last year, it was $6 to get in and T-shirts were $14 and $16 for a 2X shirt. This year, all the T-shirts are $10.

“We are just trying to help out because everyone is in a pinch,” he said.

Besides music and corn hole, radio state 92.7 The Planet will be broadcasting live with disc jockey Reevis handing out goodies, there will be door prizes from Spriggs Distributing, Coca Cola and Kerr Distributing.

And there will be a chance to enter the Bud Light Party Cruise contest.

“There are only four or five places you can enter that and Zonefest is one of them,” Brumfield said.
