Dairy cows showcased

ROME TOWNSHIP — In the dairy cattle competition at the Lawrence County Junior Fair Tuesday, first place

honor went to Garrett Crawford, of Arabia All-Stars, followed by Andrew Schmidt, of Collins Career Center Future Farmers of America in second place. Third place honor went to and Cheryl Ann Crawford, of Arabia All-Stars.

Judge Cory Sloas, of Scioto County, said the trio of dairy bovine had the desired dairy character he wanted to see in dairy cattle.

“It’s a nice set of calves,” Sloas said. “They’re nice looking.”

In the dairy cattle showmanship competition, first place in the junior division went to Garrett Crawford, of Arabia All-Stars.The top senior division honor went to Cody Crawford, also of Arabia All-Stars. What is the secret to skillfully showing off your dairy cow?

“You have to put a lot of effort into it,” Garrett Crawford said. “You have to show them you’re not going to hurt them and they will cooperate.”

Cody Crawford said the key to his success is that he enjoys what he does.

“If you don’t enjoy it,” he said. “you’re not going to do well.”
