The top showmen were recognized after displaying control over one of each of the show animals at the 2008 Lawrence County Fair and on Friday, two stood above the rest.

Kelsey Huddle, a 15-year-old Barn Buster won senior showman of showmen and Garrett Crawford, a 15-year old Arabi All Star, won junior.

Crawford reached the top showman contest by winning showman of dairy cattle. He said had a little experience with all animals because he has shown most of them.

Huddle showed lambs to reach the top showman contest. She said she worked hard to win the showman of showmen.

“I practiced with animal every day,” Huddle said. “I studied all the books I could to learn all of the animals’ diseases and everything.”

She said her family and friends helped her also.

“I had great people behind me to support me,” Huddle said. “It was a team effort.”

Crawford said the best showman must have fun.

“Smile,” he said. “Have a good time versus being all tied up and nervous.”

Huddle has been showing lambs for eight years and this is the second time she has made it to the showman of showmen contest. This is the first year Crawford won.
