JACKSON — One great day and one bad day, all in one week.

After having one of their worst days of the season on Tuesday, the Ironton Fighting Tigers’ golf team bounced back with their best day on Thursday.

Ironton shot a season-low 149 Thursday in a tri-match at the Franklin Valley Golf Course.

Ironton had a 149 score followed by Portsmouth Clay with a 166 and South Webster 178.

“We had our first sub-150 of the season and three kids shot in the 30s. It was a pretty good day,” said Ironton coach Jeff Kerns. “We’ve never played Franklin Valley before, so that made it even more satisfying.”

Nathan Kerns led Ironton as he shot an even par 34 to share medalist honors with Cory Lawhun of South Webster.

Jonathan Williams shot a 37 and Andy Holtzapfel a 38 for Ironton. Mason Weisgarber was next at 40, Josh Zornes 42 and Josh Mullins 47.

On Tuesday, Gallipolis remained unbeaten at home with a 160 score, seven shots better than Ironton. River Valley had a 212 score.

Nathan Kerns was the only Ironton golfer to break 40 as he shot a 38. Holtzapfel and Weisgarber shot 42 and Williams 45.

The Fighting Tigers play at West Union on Tuesday.
