PEDRO — When opportunity knocked, the Lucasville Valley Indians answered.

The Indians answered to the tune of a 41-13 win Friday over the Rock Hill Redmen.

“They would make a play and we never would bounce back from it. When they had opportunities, they would take advantage of it,” said Redmen coach Todd Knipp.

The first opportunity to present itself was a punt return and Tyler Evans ran back the punt 72 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and it was 7-0.

From the point on, the Indians ran 36 times for 237 yards as they improved to 2-0 on the season.

Evans had 100 yards on 10 carries and quarterback Zach Utley added 72 yards on six tries. Utley also hit 9-of-13 passes for 117 yards to give the Indians 354 total yards.

Rock Hill had 256 total yards with 129 coming through the air as Will McCollister connected on 6-of-19 attempts with a touchdown. Corey Bamer ran nine times for 42 yards and Coty Davis added 38 yards on seven attempts.

After Evans’ punt return, Rock Hill answered with a 32-yard pass play from McCollister to Josh Malone and it was 7-6.

“I was pleased to see us answer after the punt return. The big thing that hurt us was the second (Valley touchdown). We had a 60-yard touchdown pass that was called back. We didn’t get anything going after that,” said Knipp.

But Utley scored on a 17-yard keeper and Brice Crabtree added a 1-yard run just before the half and it was 21-6.

Lucasville Valley blew the game open with three touchdown runs in the third quarter. David Schultz ran 1-yard, Evans bolted 47 yards for a score, and Tyler Rowe added a 6-yarder.

“In the third quarter we got the ball down to the 10 and couldn’t score and then we forced a turnover and couldn’t capitalize,” said Knipp.

Davis capped the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
