GLENHAYES, W.Va. — This time the Fairland Dragons played four quarters. And this time they outgained their opponents.

Unfortunately, this time they still lost players to injuries.

Bad luck and injuries were the culprits as the Tolsia Rebels edged the Fairland Dragons 21-14 Friday night.

With Chad Fisher not dressing, tailbacks Matt Bloomfield and Tyler Duty both went out with injuries in the second quarter to handcuff the Fairland running game.

“We’re so banged up,” said Fairland coach Roger Snyder.

Fairland (0-4) had 186 yards rushing and 146 passing for 332 total yards. Tolsia (3-0) finished with 185 total yards.

“We played four quarters, we just couldn’t catch a break. We didn’t fold our tents. We played hard and we played with pride. I was proud of their effort,” said Snyder.

Fairland went up 6-0 on a 40-yard pass from Cole Hatfield to Bloomfield, but Tolsia took the lead on a 1-yard run and conversion kick by Virgil Salmons.

Bad luck hit when Tolsia defensive end Hardin Spaulding batted down a pass that he was able to catch. He returned the interception 31 yards for a 13-6 lead.

Derek Robinson threw 25 yards to Ryan Salmons and his conversion pass to Jimbo Smith put the Rebels up 21-6 at the half.

Blayne Cornwell bolted 55 yards for a touchdown with 7:22 left and Hatfield ran for the conversion with 7:22 left.

“We outplayed them for a good portion of the game. They got one cheap one (touchdown) on us and that was the difference,” said Snyder.

Cornwell had 112 yards on nine carries. Hatfield was 8-of-20 for 146 yards and two interceptions.
