Ironton fumbled twice in the red zone and an interception led to a Chillicothe score as the Fighting Tigers lost 17-9 to the Cavaliers Friday in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game.
Ironton’s defense held quarterback Caleb Knights to just 36 yards passing on 6-of-14 attempts and an interception, but Knights scrambled for 119 y ads and running back Eric Young rushed for 141 yards for the Cavaliers (4-2).
The Fighting Tigers (3-3, 1-2) had almost 300 yards offense led by Chance Freeman with 135 yards on 19 carries.
Coal Grove 27, Chesapeake 13
CHESAPEAKE — Chris Brammer ran for 120 yards and Coal Grove had 248 as a team in a 27-13 win over the Chesapeake Panthers Friday.
Brammer’s 8-yard scoring run with less than a minute to play sealed the tough Ohio Valley Conference win for the Hornets (3-3, 1-0).
Backup quarterback Colton Lindsey threw for 86 yards and ran for a touchdown in place of injured starter Aaron Donahoe.
Chesapeake is 2-4 and 0-1.
South Point 42, River Valley 6
CHESHIRE — South Point rushed for 326 yards on 33 attempts from nine different ball carriers, and forced six turnovers — four interceptins — as they routed the River Valley Raiders 42-6 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Jacob Seagraves led the Pointers with 95 yards on just four carries with two touchdown runs of 24 and 60 yards in the first half. He also had an interception.
Chase Woodson and Chase Kratzenberg had two touchdowns a piece and Michael Brown added one rushing score.
South Point is now 3-3 and 1-0 in the OVC. River Valley is 2-4 and 0-1.
Fairland 48, Rock Hill 25
PEDRO — Fairland used a big third quarter to open up a close game as the Dragons got their first win of the season against the winless Rock Hill Redmen Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game, 48-25.
Matt Bloomfield and Aaron Ward each had kickoff returns for touchdowns and Ward caught a 64-yard TD pass as Fairland outscored the Redmen 21-0 in the third quarter to turn a 27-25 halftime lead into a 48-25 cushion.
Blayne Cornwell ran for 114 yards and quarterback Cole Hatfield threw for 180. Ward had three catches for 112 yards for the Dragons (1-4, 1-0).
Quarterback Will McCollister threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns for Rock Hill (0-5, 0-1).
