Crystal Gale once sang, “Don’t Take Me Half The Way.”

That’s the direction of the Symmes Valley Vikings Friday night in a 34-8 loss to the Sciotoville East Tartans.

The Tartans converted 8-of-15 third down situations and 2-of-3 fourth down plays. The Vikings had the ball inside the 20-yard line on five occasions and failed to score.

“We just played half the game,” said Vikings coach Rusty Webb. “We played great defense on first and second downs, but on third and fourth downs we had a letdown.”

East drove for a touchdown on a drive that featured three third-down conversions. Bryan Hoover scored on a 3-yard run. Tyler Easthom blocked the extra point attempt.

Nathan Hood scored on a 6-yard quarterback draw as the lead went to 12-0 in the first quarter.

Hood hit Hoover with a 13-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 10:37 left in the half and it was 20-0.

The lead went to 26-0 late in the half when Hoover ran 2 yards for a tochodwn on a fourth-and-goal play.

“I’m not going to take anything away from (East),” said Webb. “The did a good job against our offense, and they did what we like to do. They held the ball on us.”

Symmes Valley (4-3, 1-1) did not allow East’s offense to score in the second half. The Tartans line scored came on a 39-yard pass interception by Chase Mault.

“The kids played great defense the second half. We played great defense in the first half on first and second downs,” said Webb.

The Vikings got on the scoreboard on a 35-yard pass from Cody Myers to Justin Payne. Myers ran for the conversion.
