Lady Hornets slip past Lady Dragons
It was like a heavyweight fight that went the full 12 rounds.
The Lady Hornets and Lady Dragons took their Ohio Valley Conference volleyball match to the limit Thursday as Coal Grove won in five sets.
“It was a good game and both teams battled it out until the end,” said Lady Hornets coach Tricia Damron.
Coal Grove lost the first game 25-21 and then won the next two sets 25-22 and 29-27. Fairland evened the game with a 25-22 win in the fourth game and Coal Grove was able to win the tiebreaker 15-12.
Danielle Carpenter had 15 points, Chelsea Delong scored 13, and Rikki Butler and Abby Nance 10 each to lead Coal Grove.
Butler also had 12 kills and Delong nine.
In the reserve game, Fairland won 25-15, 25-16.
The Lady Hornets entertain South Gallia on Monday and host their “Volley for the Cure” match on Tuesday in an effort to raise funds for breast cancer awareness.
