EDWARD TAYLOR

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Our beloved Edward Lewis Taylor, 63, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Ironton, Ohio, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at 12:10 a.m. at U.S. Veterans Medical Center, 800 Zorn Ave., Louisville, Ky.
He was born May 14, 1945, in Henderson, Ky. to Rubin Taylor Sr. and Dora Mattie Thomas Taylor.
Edward’s mother, Dora Mattie Thomas Taylor, preceded him in death in 1961. His stepsister, Carolyn Bacon, two stepbrothers, Howard and Mark Seward, and stepmother, Edithe S. Taylor, also preceded him in death.
Edward graduated from Ironton High School in 1963. After graduation, he attended Kentuckiana Beauty and Barber School and became a licensed barber of Kentucky. He enjoyed his life as a barber for more than 45 years. He was the owner and operator of Californian and Alpha IV Barber Shops. In addition to being an entrepreneur, Edward trained numerous barbers in the Louisville community. He was pleased when many of them become shop owners.
Edward married Savonia McGuire of Elkton, Ky. and to this union a daughter, Simone’ P. Taylor, was born. He also served as a medic, completing his military obligation in the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam, was an honorable discharge in 1967.
Edward loved to be around family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, barbecuing, and spending leisure time in Cadiz, Ky.
Along with his siblings, Edward grew up in a Christian environment. He professed his faith in Christ at a young age at Friendship Baptist Church which was later renamed Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Ironton, Ohio. He remained a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church until he moved he moved his membership to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky.
Edward leaves to cherish his memory, a loving companion Ursula Fowler, of Louisville, Ky., two daughters, Simone’ Taylor, of Memphis, Tenn., and Cheryl Young, of Louisville, Ky., three grandchildren, Edward, Loretta, and Dora Young, and one great-granddaughter, Anissa Young.
He also leaves a loving father, Rubin Taylor Sr., and a stepmother, Gladys P. Taylor, of Ironton, Ohio, who will forever love and miss him. Two precious brothers, Rueben Jr. and Jason Taylor, one sweet sister, Dorsey T. Conwell and brother-in-law Deotis Conwell, stepbrother Johnny Seward and sisters-in-law, Carol Seward, Judy Seward, Wilma Taylor, all from Ironton, Ohio mourn his home going. Additionally, three aunts, Lillian Bingham (Lincoln) of Louisville, Ky., Naomi Birl (Jerry) of Cadiz, Ky., Frances Bacon of Indianapolis, Ind. along with one uncle, Ray Taylor (Emma) of Chicago, Ill., and 14 nieces, 7 nephews and a host of relatives and friends, will truly miss him.
Interment was at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, Ky.
